Russian dance and culture classes for children – The goal is to create a relaxed, non-threatening environment that will facilitate the children’s interest in the Russian cultural heritage, boost their self-esteem, promote their connections to broader community and spiritual wellness. Ages 5-8

Russian dance and culture classes for children (advanced) – The goal is, in following holistic principles, to facilitate education and personal development through language learning, drama, song, and dance; as well as planned continued community participation through performances; and gradual introduction of relaxation and emotional control techniques in the course of the class. Classes are offered in the spring and fall. The number of students in each group is limited to 10. Ages 9-12

Istok Program

The goal is, by following holistic principles of education, to develop seven dimensions of thinking and expression through intensive learning of the Russian language, history, and arts and crafts. The seven dimensions of thinking and expression are:

Cognitive – The development of logical and critical thought processes, achieved through language and science learning.

Social – The development of social and interpersonal skills, achieved through creating nurturing school community and active interactions with other communities.

Emotional – Learning to recognize emotions and skills to control them through relaxation and stress-reduction techniques.

Physical – The promotion of physical fitness through understanding one’s body and learning physical activities most suitable for a particular person: e.g., sports, aerobics, dancing.

Aesthetic – The development of understanding art as a key aspect of human existence, as well as encouraging artistic self-expression through visual and performing arts and crafts.

Spiritual – Instilling the sense of compassion, fraternity and peace towards all beings.

Environmental – Learning about one’s physical environment and all human-health-related aspects of both the natural and built environment.

Classes

Beginning Russian language for children – This intensive language class for children will provide a friendly environment and easy learning of the basics of the language for young children. It will include crafts, drama, singing, and dancing, offering students the opportunity to use their newly learned skills. Students are expected to attend 3 classes per week. Ages 5-7

Intensive Russian language for children – This intensive language class for homeschoolers will provide an opportunity to learn the critical language in-depth within a 4-year program. Students are expected to attend 3 classes per week. Ages 8+

History of the Russian Art – A class is offering an introduction to Russian Art – both folk and classical. Students are expected to attend 1 class per week. Ages 7+

Basic Drawing – This class offers an introduction to basic drawing skills. Students are expected to attend 1 class per week. Ages 7+

Russian Folk Crafts – A class is offering hands-on experience of folk crafts: braiding, doll-making, Khokhloma painting. Students are expected to attend 1 class per week. Ages 7+
